One Giant Leap, Right Here in South Florida
There are some stories we know so well that we forget how extraordinary they really are.
A rocket leaves Earth. Human beings travel nearly a quarter-million miles through space. A door opens. A boot touches the Moon.
This fall, South Florida PBS brings that story to life with The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks, making its South Florida debut in September 2026.
Co-written and narrated by Tom Hanks, the internationally acclaimed immersive cinematic experience explores the triumphs of the Apollo missions while looking ahead to NASA’s Artemis program and humanity’s next chapter of lunar exploration.
But this is not a traditional documentary.
Created by the London-based studio Lightroom, the production surrounds audiences with breathtaking visuals, rare NASA archival footage and state-of-the-art spatial audio. The story unfolds through Hanks’ narration, newly filmed interviews with astronauts from NASA’s Artemis program, restored NASA footage and imagery from Apollo Remastered by NASA digital restoration expert Andy Saunders.
The result is designed to place visitors inside the story — offering a new perspective on the Apollo program, humanity’s greatest voyage and the future of space exploration.
What makes Moonwalkers especially compelling is the connection between past and future. Apollo may be history, but Artemis is still being written.
For families, educators, space enthusiasts and anyone who still looks at the night sky with a sense of wonder, this is an opportunity to experience one of humanity’s greatest achievements in an entirely new way.
The exhibition is organized by South Florida PBS in association with Lightroom and Paquin Entertainment Group.
