Museum Season Is Here: What to See Across Palm Beach County This Fall

There’s something especially satisfying about fall in Palm Beach County. The heat softens, the season wakes up, and suddenly every museum seems to be opening something worth seeing.

From photography and modern masters to Japanese printmaking, American history and immersive garden installations, the next few months offer plenty of reasons to make culture part of the weekend plan.

At the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, the season stretches across several exhibitions, including Art and Independence: America at 250, on view through December 6, and Ralph Coburn: Land, Sea, Sky, continuing through January 3. Beginning October 31, the Norton adds two more significant exhibitions: Blazing Light: Photographs by Mimi Plumb and Gertrude Abercrombie: The Whole World is a Mystery, both running through March 14. In Boca Raton, the Boca Raton Museum of Art has a full fall slate. Exploring Jess: Beat Generation Visionary remains on view through December 6, while November brings Spiritual Ecologies: Art, Nature, and Community and Tobi Kahn: Quest for the Essence, both opening November 7 and continuing through April 4. For something quieter and beautifully transportive, head to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach. Clifton Karhu: An American in Kyoto is on view through January 17, featuring the perspective of an American artist living and working in Japan. On October 17, the museum opens Mending Cracks in Time: Kintsugi Art of Naoko Fukumaru, continuing through February 28. Details are at morikami.org.

History lovers have strong options too. The Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum in West Palm Beach presents Surfing Florida: A Photographic History through October 31 at pbchistory.org. And in Palm Beach, the Flagler Museum opens America Takes the Stage: From the White City to Whitehall on November 10, continuing through May 30. At the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach, the exhibitions move naturally between art and landscape. In Full Bloom: Flowers in the Garden opens October 21 and runs through January 10, followed by Nick Mele Photography: Parked for the Season, opening November 13.
