Let There Be Light: ILUMINA Transforms Mounts Botanical Garden into a Tropical Wonderland

More than 500 handcrafted lanterns bring art, imagination and a little holiday magic to West Palm Beach in a spectacular after-dark experience.

There is something magical about a garden after dark.

The familiar becomes mysterious. Trees transform into silhouettes. Pathways invite discovery. And when hundreds of glowing lanterns illuminate the landscape, nature becomes the setting for an extraordinary celebration of art and imagination.

This holiday season, Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach invites visitors to experience that transformation with ILUMINA: A Tropical Garden Lantern Festival, returning for 48 enchanting evenings from November 18, 2026, through January 17, 2027.

Featuring more than 500 handcrafted silk lanterns, the immersive outdoor experience promises to turn one of Palm Beach County’s most beloved natural treasures into a radiant wonderland of color, creativity, and light.

And in a destination where holiday celebrations don’t require snowflakes or winter coats, ILUMINA offers something wonderfully different: a festive experience inspired by the lush tropical beauty of South Florida.

Where Art and Nature Come Alive

Imagine strolling beneath the stars as glowing sculptures emerge from the darkness, their brilliant colors reflecting the extraordinary diversity of the natural world.

Inspired by centuries-old lantern-making traditions, ILUMINA celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship behind illuminated installations, transforming silk, light, and imagination into larger-than-life creations.

Each lantern becomes a work of art, inviting visitors to discover the relationship between traditional artistic expression and the living landscape around it.

Unlike a conventional gallery exhibition, ILUMINA doesn’t ask visitors to stand back and observe. Instead, it invites them to step inside the experience, moving through illuminated environments where art and nature share the spotlight.

The result is a celebration designed to awaken curiosity, spark wonder, and encourage visitors to see the garden in an entirely new light.

A Garden Like You’ve Never Seen Before

For generations, Mounts Botanical Garden has offered Palm Beach County residents and visitors a place to discover the beauty and remarkable diversity of tropical horticulture.

Its 20-acre landscape, featuring 25 distinct garden areas, is a living museum where education, conservation, and natural beauty come together.

With ILUMINA, that familiar daytime destination takes on an entirely different personality.

As daylight fades, the garden becomes an illuminated landscape that encourages exploration at a slower, more imaginative pace.

The experience blends the tranquility of nature with the excitement of discovering something unexpected around the next corner.

And because the exhibition unfolds outdoors, beneath the palms and tropical foliage, the surrounding environment becomes as much a part of the artwork as the lanterns themselves.

It is an experience uniquely suited to South Florida, where the natural landscape provides a magnificent canvas for creativity.

A New Kind of Holiday Tradition

The most memorable holiday traditions are often the ones that bring people together.

ILUMINA offers families, couples, friends, and visitors of all generations an opportunity to step away from the usual seasonal rush and share a few moments of wonder.

For children, it’s an invitation into an illuminated world that feels almost storybook-like. For adults, it’s a chance to rediscover that wonderful sense of amazement that can sometimes get lost in everyday life.

And for anyone who believes the arts should be experienced rather than simply admired, ILUMINA delivers a beautiful reminder of how creativity can transform an ordinary evening into an unforgettable memory.

Perhaps that’s the real magic of an experience like this.

It’s not simply about the lights themselves. It’s about what happens when we encounter something beautiful together: the conversations, the laughter, the photographs, and those unexpected moments when we stop and appreciate what’s right in front of us.

In a world that rarely slows down, there’s something particularly appealing about an evening devoted to wonder.
